For the seminar 'Artivism,' me and a fellow student organized to hold an intervention against the fetishization of queer women. As queer women, we're constantly sexualized in public, whether we're out clubbing or buying groceries. People shout vulgair, insane things, just for holding hands or hugging. For this poster, we flipped the script: we took real phrases yelled at us and placed them around a straight couple, to show how bizarre, absurd and invasive this really is. We also recorded the phrases and played the audio file around our posters, so people can't escape the conversation and are directly confronted. Our goal was to spark more conversation and help people realize this isn't normal, and it's time to call it out.
